Surface treatments on internal rolling parts such as balls, cages, and raceways can also be applied to increase the resistance to wear or the behavior of the bearings when lubrication is uncertain or intermittent. Some of these treatments even allow dry lubrication, for instance when oil or grease is not used at all.
